Data Analysis Trends in Procurement

The swift advancements of digital technologies in recent years has completely changed the process of Procurement. These changes will only become more prevalent as the digital and technological sphere continues to evolve.
Trends in procurement have advanced from the era of paper-based records and primitive spreadsheets. These time-consuming data analytics methods were significantly limited due to the inability to effectively process and interpret large volumes of data. The creation of and advancements in contemporary data-analytics software enabled us to transparently analyse and visualise copious quantities of information. Future advancements in technology will exponentially improve the ability for larger volumes of data to be processed in increasing detail and frequently in real time.
The rapid growth of automated processes and virtual tools has profoundly improved the efficiency of data analysis in procurement. Specialists are now able to make smarter and more accurate decisions on spending, managing suppliers and designing better strategies. Procurement leaders are also able to improve their performance on fundamental tasks; meeting demand, cutting costs, managing risks and increasing the prevalence of predictive data analysis. The tender process that is significantly reliant on the cooperation of suppliers will become a lot more resourceful. The several step process of contacting, waiting for a response, organising inspections and receiving and comparing quotes, will become a lot more straightforward where digital technologies will play an intrinsic role in reducing time and ultimately cost.
It is certain that high level data analytics will continue to become exponentially more prevalent in future procurement decision making, to remain compliant with increased demand from customers in making quicker and more efficient decisions.
